Chanting helps clear a busy brain, with the repetition of ancient Sanskrit words, that allow the mind to become focused and less distracted by disruptive thoughts. Natural sounds calm an over stimulated nervous system to assist a restful and deep sleep at night when
your liver goes into action to store, cleanse, and detox the body, to promote the healthy flow of energy.
There is more to music than you know! We know how we feel when a favourite song is played or how a song can take you back to a time and place. It’s almost impossible to live without music, there are songs for celebratory occasions that mark major events and milestones, from the moment we are born. As such, it’s hard to ignore the way music is so deeply interwoven into the fabric of our being. The process involved in threading the
individual sounds together: the melody, pitch, rhythm, and dynamics is quite a task for the brain, to undertake. The activity of listening to music, therefore, has been reported to increase the blood flow to the brain that generates and control emotions. That is why you feel goosebumps when moved by a favourite song as the limbic system lights up and as a result, happy hormones are released, and you feel good!
The Health Works, Thrive Radio is a concept, in which I have created an online radio station, through a digital platform. The platform consists of program segments that are focused on holistic approaches to health, dispersed with interviews and podcasts from health professionals and industry experts.
Music playlists are threaded throughout, working in themes for a particular program. As such there is a wide range of music selection moving between holistic beats, indie feels, yoga chanting, and peaceful sounds that connect the individual to nature.
To provide a one stop place for the community to engage in mindful activities that not only educate but make a difference in one’s life. To have the potential to reach out and connect with like minds with invested interest in learning new skills and techniques to soothe and calm an overactive nervous system, to offer positive steps towards feeling better, avoiding stress and to assist with anxiety and depression are all goals of the station.

To make a difference is the selling point. A hesitancy to undertake a new program involving health and wellness are numerous, one is that health and wellness is reserved for the only few, not accessible to everyone, as portrayed in the media. A quick glance of commercials, magazines and billboards still frame the idea of stereotypical images of beauty and youth. My intention is to dispel the myth by disclosing how important health is to every individual, especially at a time when stress, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, respiratory concerns, inflammation disorders and heart disease are paramount.
